Hisense 4K ULED Series 7 TV Review

It really takes a lot for a TV to stand out in the market today. Curved screens, 3D technology and virtual reality are proving that the future of television lies in making radical changes to user viewing experiences.

Hisense has taken that proactive step forward with its 4K ULED series 7 TV. The current industry standard is Full High Definition (Full HD), however Hisense is pre-empting the inevitable industry shift to 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) by offering it to consumers now. With four times the resolution of standard HD, you can immerse yourself in even richer, life-like detail.

Standing out from the crowd

Higher resolution isn’t the be-all end-all of image quality, and Hisense knows it. Greater contrast and more accurate colour are vital to producing the most realistic, immersive images. Hisense’s ULED technology is protected by 17 patents of hardware and software elements which come together to enhance colour, contrast, resolution and motion. Here are the standout features of the new 4K ULED series 7 TV, ranging from 50 to 75 inches in size.

  • More ‘local dimming’ zones. Local dimming is the ability to dim certain parts of the screen to blacker blacks while keeping other zones bright. This creates greater contrast, greater depth, and greater image quality.
  • It is HDR (High Dynamic Range) compatible. HDR has expanded colour and contrast ranges to better capture realistic images.
  • Wide colour gamut of 91.2% of Rec.2020 and 99.98% of the DCI-P3 colour spaces. (For the less tech-savvy of us, this translate as ‘a wider range of colours’ – so your greens will be greener, reds will be redder, etc)
  • ‘UltraSmooth Motion’ proprietary motion estimation and compensation algorithms, which produce and add frames to create smoother transitions. Blinking and scanning backlight technologies also add to smoother fast action images.

The Series 7 is also a smart TV. It can connect to your wireless network, with pre-installed web browser and apps including Netflix, YouTube, Facebook and SBS on Demand.

Glare-mitigating technology

What also makes this TV stand out is the glare-mitigating technology. Australia is a sunny country, which is frustrating when you’re trying to watch the TV and all you can see are light reflections. Greater brightness and contrast is important for countering the effects of glare. Hisense’s local dimming, HDR and wide colour gamut all combine to stop sunlight and other bright light reflections from washing out the image quality on your TV.
